Friends from Boston

Shy and TJ have spent a nice, quiet day together as Shy waits for Tom to show. He's curious if Dev will be with him. He's not sure that he'd want to go on a road trip to help out a husband's ex, so if the guy does show up, Shy knows he'll be impressed.

"Are you sure you don't mind them staying here?" Shy asks TJ again.

"Of course I don't mind," TJ assures him with a grin for the umpteenth time. "And if they decide to stay somewhere else, I won't be offended," he adds before Shy can ask that. "I'm just psyched to meet a friend who cares so much about you. Plus, I want to see if he's as hot as you say."

"Oh, trust me, he is," Shy says. "And if I hadn't been an idiot, I could have married him and been happy. He's just the best."

TJ smiles. "Don't you dare be a homewrecker, Shy."

Shy's eyes widen, then he realizes he's being teased. "Tom is an awesome, dedicated husband, and Dev is a sexy guy I can tell really loves Tom. No way I'd be able to even attempt to wreck that home." He checks the time. "They should be here any time now."

Thanks to Shy's direction and a little help from MapQuest, Tom and Dev made fairly decent time to Lubec. As they turned onto the street Shy had given in his friend's address, the former priest looked at his husband. "Thank you, sweetheart." He said again. "Having you with me means a lot and it will to Shy as well."

Dev leaned over to kiss Tom. "I'm just happy to be here watching you be an amazing friend," he said with a smile.

"And I get to watch you be an amazing husband all the time." Tom smiled, leaning in for another kiss even as he kept his eyes on the road.

"I'm kind of excited, you know," Dev said. "I've never been part of a rescue mission before."

Tom couldn't help but giggle. "You sound like we're going in to free Shy from kidnappers or terrorists."

"Actually, a broken heart is worse than a terrorist," Dev said sagely.

After bringing the car to a stop in front of the address Shay had given him, Tom turned and brushed a thumb over Dev's lower lip. "How did you get so wise, sweetheart?" He asked with a soft smile.

"Living a debauched life will do that to a person," Dev grinned, kissing Tom's thumb. "And here comes your damsel," he said softly when he saw Shy open the front door.

Tom snickered as he opened the door. "Call him that and he'll probably spit in your eye, husband of mine."

He stepped out of the car and came around to the curb just in time to wrap his arms around his pale, drawn friend and pull him close. Pressing a kiss to the riot of curls under his cheek, he whispered. "It'll be okay, sweetheart."

Shy was able to hold it together until he heard those sweet words, and he just lost it. Holding tightly to Tom, he sobbed quietly for a little while, then whispered. "Thank you for coming."

"Of course I came, Shy." Tom smiled tenderly. "You're my friend and I love you."

"I love you," Shy said softly. "I think I always will." He quickly wiped his eyes. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't say that. I'm just... I've been feeling so weird all day and I'm confused about TJ and don't know what I should do." He narrowed his eyes and finally noticed that Dev was in the car. "Oh my gosh, get Dev. Let's go inside. TJ's got beer in the fridge."

"Shy, you say whatever you feel you need to, okay?" Tom looked over at the car and motioned for Dev to join them. "You are going to love Dev, sweetheart, he's the most adorable smartass."

"From what you've told me about him, I know you're right," Shy said, watching as the handsome blond got out of the car and walked over to them.

"Hey, Shy," Dev said, his smile sympathetic but warm. "It's good to finally meet the legend."

"Me? A legend?" Shy looked at Tom and giggled softly.

Tom grinned and slid an arm around Dev's waist. "Shy this is my husband, Dev Quinn Ryan." Good how good it felt to say that. He always got a big charge out of introducing Dev that way. "Dev, this is Shy York, a legend in my mind if nowhere else."

"It's nice to meet you, Dev," Shy said, chuckling. He could immediately see what Tom saw in the other man and knew that someone like him could never compete with that. "Don't listen to a word he says."

"Good to meet you too, Shy," Dev said. "And I have no doubt that you made quite an impression on him."

Shy blushed a little. "Um, would you guys like a beer. Come on in."

"A beer sounds great." Tom laughed and kissed Shy's temple then captured Dev's lips in a brief but passionate kiss, happy the two were getting along. "Don't let him tease you too much, Shy. My wild child loves to make people blush."

Shy couldn't help smiling even though he wondered if Dev really was as nice as he seemed to be.

"C'mon, I'll introduce you to TJ." He led Dev and Tom into the house and smiled when he saw TJ had already taken out some beers for all of them. "TJ, I'd like you to meet Tom. And this is his husband, Dev."

TJ walked over to them and smiled as he put out a hand. "How you guys doing?"

Tom smiled and took the man's hand. Nice to meet you too, TJ."

TJ shook Tom's hand, then Dev's. "You guys are a good looking couple," he said with a grin.

"I like you, TJ," Dev laughed. "Why don't you and I go get acquainted so Tom and Shy can talk, huh?"

TJ nodded. "Okay by me."

"That good with you, baby?" Dev asked Tom.

Tom had to laugh at Dev's response. "That's good with me, sweetheart, but maybe I should warn TJ not to stroke your ego too much. Otherwise we'll never fit your head back into the car." He looked at Shy and gave his shoulder a squeeze. "Are you okay with it, Shy?"

"Yeah, it's fine with me," Shy said, giving Dev a grateful smile. He'd been hoping he'd have a chance to talk to Tom alone.

"Cool. We can talk in the kitchen," TJ said to Dev, leading him into the other room.

Once Dev and TJ had left the room, Tom sat down on the couch and pulled Shy down beside him, tucking him under his arm. "Okay, sweetheart, talk to me, tell me what you're thinking and feeling." He said gently.

Shy snuggled even closer and closed his eyes with a sigh, just soaking up the warmth of his friend's embrace. "I'm scared. I'm angry. I feel completely worthless and..." He looked up at Tom. "I slept with TJ," he whispered. "I used him because I wanted to feel something other than torn apart."

"Oh, sweetheart, you are so not worthless." Tom said, holding the man closer. "Did TJ understand what was going on, what you were feeling, Shy?"
