Shy's standing on the dock, looking towards the mainland. He'd heard the engines of the boats before he'd seen them, and he doesn't understand who's coming to the island. The boat that Will and Orlando usually use is secured and if anyone else comes out, they usually call first.
As the mystery boats get closer, Shy recognises them as police boats. He turns to run and that's when he realises that there is nowhere to go. Once those officers land, they will catch him and they will take him back to Grand Cayman to stand trial for killing Hammer.
Suddenly, he's face down in the dirt, the cool, wet earth smearing against his cheek as he's handcuffed and taken into custody. The trial is swift and the sentence of death handed down without hesitation.
"Have you any last words?" a disembodied voice asks before the final sentence is carried out.
Before Shy can say that he's sorry about what happened and that he would take it all back if he could, everything goes black and he knows he's dead.
Shy bolts upright in bed and wipes the sweat from his face. He checks on the sleeping figure next to him and leans over to kiss his cheek before getting out of bed. The dreams have changed since he's returned to the island, but the basic premise is always the same. One day, his past is going to catch up with him. When it does, he's going to lose everything. He knows that the only thing he can do until that happens is keep what he holds most dear close to him and never let go.
